A Comforting Italian-Inspired Family Meal

Homemade lasagna is the ultimate comfort food, layered with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, tender pasta, and melted cheese. This recipe creates a hearty, satisfying dish that’s perfect for family dinners, gatherings, or leftovers that taste even better the next day.

Ingredients for Homemade Lasagna

Meat Sauce

  • 1½ pounds ground beef

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Ricotta Layer

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Assembly

  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked

  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

How to Make Homemade Lasagna

Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened. Stir in garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.

In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, and Parmesan cheese. Preheat oven to 375°F.

Spread a thin layer of sauce in a baking dish. Add noodles, ricotta mixture, sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes, then uncover and bake another 15 minutes.

Tips for Perfect Lasagna

Let the lasagna rest before slicing to keep layers intact. Using whole-milk ricotta creates a richer texture.
