A Classic Southern Comfort Dish

Southern tomato gravy is a staple that doesn’t need meat to be rich and satisfying. This vegetarian version keeps the bold flavor while remaining simple and affordable.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons flour

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes

  • 1 cup milk or plant milk

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in skillet.

  2. Whisk in flour to make roux.

  3. Cook until lightly golden.

  4. Slowly add tomatoes and milk.

  5. Simmer 10 minutes.

  6. Season and serve.
